Advisory Council
Our Board
Our Team
Our pan-African Advisory Council provides strategic oversight and guidance in matters related to political, economic and development issues on the continent. The Advisory Council consists of Africa’s leading thinkers in the field of energy, development economics, industrial policy and trade, agriculture, gender and social inclusion and the role of technology.
The ACF’s Board of Trustees provides oversight over the ACF’s operations and grant-making. The ACF is currently in the process of expanding the Board.
Observer Board Members
Dr Ruwadzano Matsika
Ruwa is an Analyst for the Quadrature Climate Foundation advising on developing mitigation projects on accelerating low emission, climate resilient transitions in land use, food and agriculture systems and clean energy, as well as climate risk.
Ruwa is a Zimbabwean national, an environmental scientist and a climate and development specialist with over ten years’ experience working at the interface of science, policy and practice in Africa and other regions in the Global South.
A deep climate generalist, she has worked as Africa Regional Coordinator for the United Nations Global Compact advancing corporate sustainability across Africa, Research and Policy Advisor at ActionAid International, and as a Carnegie Research Fellow at the Global Change Institute at WITS University in South Africa. Her work has included research and decision-making support on energy transition planning, adaptation and resilience planning for national government and the humanitarian sector.
She holds a Doctorate in Environmental Sciences and a Post-graduate Diploma in Energy Leadership from WITS University, and a certificate in Climate-related Financial Risk from the University of Oxford.
Michael Hugman
Michael (Mike) is the Global Director, Climate at CIFF and as such is responsible for overseeing CIFF’s work on ending fossil fuel finance and accelerating the climate transition through the development and financing of climate action plans for corporates, banks and countries. Previously, Mike worked across the investment industry, most recently as a Portfolio Manager for NinetyOne (Investec), where he also led ESG and Data Science initiatives, including collaboration with WWF and the LSE. Before that, he worked as an economist and strategist for the hedge fund Amiya Capital, and for Standard Bank London. From 2005-7 he was a technical advisor to the Budget Office of the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Finance. He holds an MPhil in Economics and an MA in PPE, both from the University of Oxford.
